Dewatering operation in Africa

The engineering know-how of German companies continues to be in great demand in Africa.

In 2023, MIBRAG Consulting International GmbH and ILV Fernerkundung GmbH resumed project activities with other partner companies at the opencast diamond mine “Luaxe” – currently one of the most important mining projects in Africa:

Due to the enormous amount of water present and an almost 100 m thick cover of unconsolidated sediment over the kimberlite body, the project partners were commissioned to plan drainage measures to lower the groundwater level and then to implement them on site by installing dewatering wells and drainage systems. In addition, various studies are to be prepared, including a local rerouting of the Luele River near the opencast mine.

On 7 August 2023, the Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources and Petroleum Dr. Diamantino Azevedo visited the Luaxe opencast mine, where the current project status and objectives were explained and presented to him in detail. This high-level visit was reported on Angolan state television TPA.
